So, I have a confession. I think babies are kinda ugly. They’re wrinkly and they make noises at you, but you don’t know what they want or what they’re really thinking. Every once in awhile they exorcist puke on you and everybody finds this super hilarious…everybody except you, cause you have puke in your mouth and it’s not your own.

Buggy is a cute baby. And I had forgotten how much fun it is to be invited into someone’s home to capture that sort of daily ritual of life that includes a new baby. There’s this contentment, laughter and some exasperation that’s just lively and makes me smile. And the best is watching the baby watch the parents, cause you’ll never see that kind of love me look from anyone but your own baby.

Fun with Ringlights

I took a large video ringlight to a friend’s BBQ. The results of a ringlight are very flattering, nice even light and a gentle falloff. The problem is that most ringlights (strobe) have a small diameter. The really large ringlights are normally built custom for studios. This particular ringlight (Diva Ringlight) is pretty big, but you have to set it very very close to your subject to get those freaky circular catchlights in the eye. It’s also not the brightest thing; I had to bump my ISO to 400 to shutter at 1/125 F4.

It is funny to see what people do when plopped in front of a large light source and a camera though.

F is for Film

My friend Boo has a film troupe called F is for Film. They spoof popular movies and trends. Their troupe consists of 7 people at the moment, so that was group shots and single shots of everyone including a headshot type thing. There was a theme, film at the end of the universe or the end of the world or some kind of film in the future doomsday idea. They found this awesome empty floor of a building that was under construction. I kind of went the Men in Black route when asking them to pick costumes. The fun part of groups is finding each individuals personality and bringing it out in facial expressions and body language.
