These are my favorite so far from the Head Kandi shoot. And I’m thinking more and more that wigs are pretty darn awesome.

NYC may be a big place, but it’s pretty weird how small the sub-cultures are. I photographed the Kristin Costa show at INC Lounge this week, because my friend was modeling. I recognized several of the other models from Steampunk conventions/events. Shien Lee from Dances of Vice was also modeling and she perhaps best embodies the under-underground fashion in New York. It’s a devilish care-not attitude that gives a big fat middle finger to the Anthropologies/Abercrombie crowd and embraces a mix of risque fashion from the the victorian era, anime, 1920’s and more. I’m just happy to have a chance to photograph it in the making.

Tokyo Rebel Contest – Punk Lolita

Hindsight. Whoever created that word is laughing real hard at the rest of the world that has to use it. Looking back at the outfit put together for the punk version, I now notice that it’s not very top heavy. I should have bangled her arm with chains and studs to balance out the fluffy bottom. Maybe next time. I do like how the outdoor photos came out. I am not a very good photographer when it comes to natural light. I tend to forget things like houses and cars and debris are in the frame. Yuffie has some very cool stuff at her house, the old Fisher fireplace being one and the GIANT log splitter being the other.

Gothic Lolita – YuffieBunny for Tokyo Rebel Fashion Contest

I entered my model friend YuffieBunny into the Tokyo Rebel fashion photo contest. The prize is $250 to spend on clothes and goodies at the Japanese import store. I hope we win. Here are two shots from a series I did featuring a Gothic Lolita dress made by Samantha Rei (Blasphemina’s Closet). The next series is a punk version. I’m not quite so happy with the punk version. I’m no stylist, but I can see the top is too plain for the bottom. If I can grab Yuffie when she has free time, I’ll be reshooting the punk version.

46 Lounge Fashion Shoot

I did a little editorial shoot for 46 Lounge and Snapm back in 2009. It was summer. Sonic had just opened in New Jersey and there was a line all the way down the highway. I had been watching alot of SYTYCD (So You Think You Can Dance) and wanted to replicate that 3 dimensional thing they were doing with the lighting. It was a very strong sidelight that rimmed the edge of the dancer. I used a large silver umbrella and probably should have gone with a long gridded softbox for more control.
